What you need to know about the first approved treatment for sexual desire disorder

If you haven’t heard, we have fantastic news for you. Last week, the FDA approved Addyi (filbanserin) as a drug to treat acquired and generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder, or HSDD, in premenopausal women. The approval of Addyi is the first of its kind, and word quickly spread about the upcoming drug. It became even more popular as more and more people dubbed it as the Female Viagra.

The approval of Addyi shows incredible potential for female enhancement products. Prior to Addyi, there were no FDA-approved drugs for sexual desire disorders. The emergence of Addyi signifies that the public, together with the government and our think tanks, are now ready for products aimed towards the improvement of sexual health.

We are also excited about the news about Addyi. Here are some facts you need to know about Addyi before telling your partner about it:

Does Addyi work like Viagra?

No. Viagra works by enhancing the blood flow to your penis, while Addyi works specifically on a woman’s sexual desire, or libido. The evaluation of sexual desire in the brain is not a well-defined measurement, thus prompting a new way to quantify sexual desire in order to objectively demonstrate the effects of Addyi in women. A new method, called the Sexual Function Index, attempted to put a number to the sexual experience and rating of sexual desire that women experience after taking the drug.

Addyi works by balancing the chemicals in the brain that controls sexual desire. Filbanserin, the active component of Addyi works by blocking the production of Serotonin, a key chemical in the brain that controls sleep, depression, memory, and other neurological processes. It is believed that serotonin impedes sexual desire in women, and Filbanserin inhibits and controls Serotonin to facilitate the production of other neurotransmitters that contribute to sexual desire.

Are there side effects that you should be concerned about?

Yes. Since Filbanserin works on a woman’s Serotonin levels, the obvious concern about Filbanserin is its side effects, which would involve dizziness, nausea, sleepiness, and fainting, especially when used with alcohol. Addyi is generally used as a treatment for sexual desire disorder, and not for recreational use to improve sexual desire.

Are there alternatives to Addyi?

Yes. In fact, there has been an herbal treatment used for centuries to improve fertility and sexual desire in both men and women. Maca Root is a popular sexual enhancement supplement that regulates hormones in both men and women to enhance sexual desire. The best male enhancement supplements contain Maca Root as an aphrodisiac that makes men stay longer in bed.

There are some male enhancement formulas that are safe to be taken by both men and women, like Marathon Man Maca 1000. If you’re looking for a supplement that you can take with your partner, you can’t go wrong with Marathon Man Maca 1000. One pill of Marathon Man Maca 1000 ensures that you and your partner are both at the peak of your libido every day.
